On the nature of the spin-polarized hole states in a quasi-two-dimensional GaMnAs ferromagnetic layer

A self-consistent calculation of the density of states and the spectral density function is performed in a two-dimensional spin-polarized hole system based on a multiple-scattering approximation. Using parameters corresponding to GaMnAs thin layers, a wide range of Mn concentrations and hole densities have been explored to understand the nature, localized or extended, of the spin-polarized holes at the Fermi level for several values of the average magnetization of the Mn ystem. We show that, for a certain interval of Mn and hole densities, an increase on the magnetic order of the Mn ions come together with a change of the nature of the states at the Fermi level. This fact provides a delocalization of spin-polarized extended states anti-aligned to the average Mn magnetization, and a higher spin-polarization of the hole gas. These results are consistent with the occurrence of ferromagnetism with relatively high transition temperatures observed in some thin film samples and multilayered structures of this material.Comment: 3 page

La nouvelle écologie urbaine suggère une question de recherche majeure qui relie le concept d'empreinte écologique à la notion de qualité urbaine : comment rendre la ville « supportable » par la nature et l'environnement urbain supportable pour l'homme ? Action sur l'imaginaire et les formes matérielles de la ville, les fonctions et les usages qu'elles accueillent, l'urbanisme durable est au coeur de la recherche de réponses à cette question. C'est à la possibilité d'envisager l'agencement de l'espace urbain comme une structure active et son aménagement concerté, aux différentes échelles d'organisation de l'action collective, comme un levier d'un développement durable possible, subordonnée à des choix politiques et éthiques, que s'attelle notre réflexion

Magnetic ordering in GaAlAs:Mn double well structure

The magnetic order in the diluted magnetic semiconductor barrier of double AlAs/GaAs: Mn quantum well structures is investigated by Monte Carlo simulations. A confinement adapted RKKY mechanism is implemented for indirect exchange between Mn ions mediated by holes. It is shown that, depending on the barrier width and the hole concentration a ferromagnetic or a spin-glass order can be established.Comment: 3 figure

Spin-polarized transport in ferromagnetic multilayered semiconductor nanostructures

The occurrence of inhomogeneous spin-density distribution in multilayered ferromagnetic diluted magnetic semiconductor nanostructures leads to strong dependence of the spin-polarized transport properties on these systems. The spin-dependent mobility, conductivity and resistivity in (Ga,Mn)As/GaAs,(Ga,Mn)N/GaN, and (Si,Mn)/Si multilayers are calculated as a function of temperature, scaled by the average magnetization of the diluted magnetic semiconductor layers. An increase of the resistivity near the transition temperature is obtained. Equipe técnica de abacaxi comemora 30 anos de atividades e realizações.

A Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura Tropical instituiu há poucos anos atrás, os ?Dias dos Produtos? pesquisados pelo Centro. A data escolhida para a comemoração do ?Dia do Abacaxi? foi 04 de novembro. Isso porque foi nessa data que o navegador genovês, Cristóvão Colombo, em uma de suas históricas viagens, aportou na ilha de Guadalupe, e lá encontrou o abacaxi sendo cultivado pelos nativos. Impressionado pela beleza e forma da planta, pelo aroma e sabor do fruto, coletou alguns exemplares e os levou para a Europa, onde esse fruto teve grande aceitação. Em 2007, a comemoração do ?Dia do Abacaxi? foi adiada e ocorreu no dia 10/12/2007 à tarde, e também teve uma programação diferente, da qual constou, além da confraternização informal de praxe, uma sessão técnica composta de um painel. Nesse painel foram apresentadas quatro palestras referentes a alguns dos impactos e avanços obtidos pela Equipe Técnica de Abacaxi /ETA, da Unidade, ao longo de sua existência. Os temas das palestras versaram sobre o VI Simpósio Internacional de Abacaxi (pela primeira vez realizado no continente sulamericano e, mais especificamente, no Brasil); fitossanidade (fusariose) e produção integrada (com destaque para o Tocantins); melhoramento genético (híbridos resistentes e herança da resistência); usos alternativos do abacaxi (como ornamental, flor de corte, de vaso e de jardim); e aspectos econômicos e de mercado (peso médio do fruto brasileiro e posição do Brasil no mercado internacional).
